About
A fast, private place to choose type
FontTest is a small set of tools for the moment every designer and developer hits: you need to choose a typeface, and you want to see it rather than guess. Type a word and compare it across hundreds of fonts. Pair a heading with a body font and test the combination against real layouts. Or drop in a font file to inspect what’s actually inside it.
Privacy
There’s no account and no analytics on what you type. The catalogue fonts are loaded on demand from Google Fonts as you browse. In the inspector, font files you drop in are read and rendered entirely in your browser — they’re never uploaded to a server.
Shareable by design
Every preview state lives in the URL, so any view you build — a word in a particular font, a heading-and-body pairing on a dark background — is a link you can paste to a colleague who then sees exactly what you see.
What’s next
Coming up: individual pages for every font with suggested pairings, a typography blog, and a font-performance audit that tells you what your web fonts are costing your page’s load time.
FontTest is built by S5 Ltd. Fonts are served by Google Fonts under their respective open licences.
